An Insight into the world’s largest peaceful gathering – Kumbh Mela Allahabad 2019

The largest religious gathering in the world is upon us once again with the Kumbh Mela Allahabad 2019 commencing soon. Millions of Hindu devotees, not just from India but around the world, will flock to the city of Allahabad to bathe in the waters of the holy river. Every six years, the cities of Allahabad and Haridwar play host to this huge gathering. Ujjain and Nasik are other two cities where you can witness the splendour of this fair. The religious significance and the sheer grandeur of Kumbh Mela have earned it a spot on the list of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Since Allahabad is the host for 2019, the pilgrims will be bathing in the sacred waters of the Saraswati River. A dip in the river is believed to wash away the sins of devotees and help them achieve nirvana. As per Hindu beliefs, drops of Amrita or the drink of immortality were dropped by Lord Vishnu at four places, namely Allahabad, Haridwar, Nasik and Ujjain, where the iconic Kumbh Mela is hosted. The gathering is so ancient that the exact date of its origin is unknown.

Kumbh Mela Allahabad 2019 will kick off on 15th January 2019 and conclude on 4th March 2019. A whopping 150 million devotees are expected to become a part of this splendid fair.
